Various Backup Solutions

There are various backup solutions you can choose from and there really is no right or wrong answer to solving the threat of data loss. It comes down to your specific needs and your budget. Let's have a look at some of your options.

CD's/DVD's - A good choice for home computers, students, and small business. Advantages - cheap and easy to use or store. You can take them off-premise with relative ease and you can buy in bulk at discount rates. Disadvantages - no security, damaged easily, limited space, and scratch easily.

External Hard Drive - This is an option for small to medium size businesses that are not networked. Advantages - you can mirror your entire hard drive then take it and store it either onsite or off. Disadvantages - it is cumbersome, not the most economical choice, and there is no security.

Tape Backups - These are a good choice for any size business especially those that are networked. Advantages - affordable, you can set security, easy to use, easy to take off-premise, and you can even automate the entire process. Disadvantages - slow, prone to high error rates, and reliability can be a problem.

VXA Packet Tape Backups - This revolutionary technology takes tape backups to a new level. This is an excellent choice for medium to large businesses and networks. It has a zero tolerance to errors and it uses the same digital packet technology that is used on the internet. There are no real disadvantages to this system other than perhaps price.

Online Backup Services - Here's a good solution for any size business. Advantages - provides secure encrypted data and allows you to schedule backups which can occur while you continue working. Disadvantages - can be a bit on the pricey side, especially for smaller companies.
