Data backup is the process of making a copy of your computer data on a separate disk or tape as an alternative data source that can be restored in case the data is lost from the original data source.
A data backup saves all of your data in one or more locations so that should a disaster strike, you will have your data stored safely on a backup. That means even if your computer is stolen or was destroyed, your files and programs are all saved in another location.
It is estimated that the chance of loosing data due to human error or computer hardware failure is over 75% so the odds aren't in your favor. It's not worth taking the chance of losing those files your company has spent years collecting when a simple data backup is all it takes to maintain your company's computer data regardless of what happens.
There are several different data backup options to choose from, but the one that offers the most versatility is tape backup. By backing up your data on tape, you have the ability to backup unlimited quantities of data, and you can also easily store the backup tapes in a secure, offsite location.
VXA tape backup offers even more peace of mind due to the difference in the way the VXA technology works. VXA stores data in packets, rather than in a linear fashion. This data packet technology, along with the unique "perfect write" system, which fixes any write errors on-the-fly, creates tape backups that are error-free and can easily be restored.
VXA tape drives are also available in tape autoloaders, which automate the process of changing tapes. These autoloaders give you the ability to easily backup large quantities of data without having to fuss with changing tapes every time. This automation helps eliminate the potential for human error in the data backup process.
