Tape storage technology uses an electronic machine or drive which writes & reads data to and from magnetic tapes. These tapes resemble those uses in cassette tape players or VCRs, but instead of audio or video content, these tapes store computer data.
The theory behind all data storage is that when a disaster hits no matter how big or small you will be able to rely on your backup to get your system up and running again. Tape storage is a great option because you have a lot of flexibility in how and where you store your data. You can easily store the tapes offsite in a secure location where they can be accessed in case disaster strikes and your data is lost.
VXA tape backup offers and innovative twist on conventional tape storage technology. VXA tape drives use digital data packets to transfer the data to the tapes. This is the same type of data transfer used on the Internet.
VXA drives are zero error tolerant, which means you can rest assured that your data will be recovered when it is needed. The reason this system can offer the zero tolerance for errors is the way it records the data. A pair of alternate packets is recorded during each drum rotation. A second head, called a trailing head, follows behind the first head and if it detects an inaccurate data packet it immediately rewrites the packet. This happens so quickly you won't even notice that it's happening, but it gives you a much more reliable data backup.
VXA has proven itself to be a reliable option in tape storage devices. IT professionals around the world have begun to see why VXA is becoming a top choice for tape backup and storage.
