The overall industry acceptance of VXA technology has been very high. Given the options, a vast majority of network system administrators prefer VXA backup technology over competing formats because of its reliability and low cost.
The main factor keeping more network administrators from adopting a VXA-based backup system is their reluctance to switch from a legacy backup system that has been in place for years.
As more companies understand the benefits that can come from adding tape automation using the faster, more reliable VXA format, they are starting to take the leap and switch to VXA for their tape backup. VXA autoloaders offer the ability for small businesses to automate the backup process.
VXA technology has become popular as people realize the benefits offered by this backup format. VXA packets handle the backup process in a manner that is completely different from conventional backup methods.
VXA technology uses digital packet technology similar to how data is transferred on the Internet, making it much more reliable and accurate. VXA tape drives also offer zero tolerance for error. The VXA drive has two heads. The first goes along writing the data while the second head follows comparing the data to make sure it is correct.
Conventional methods were unreliable and often contained errors that were hidden and undiscovered until the backup recovery process. They could also be very finicky if not used on the tape drive with which they were originally recorded.
Because of the technology used with the VXA systems none of these issues remains. Digital packets are the most reliable and the most affordable way to store data. VXA drives are able to match the speed of the data transfer, making back hitching a non-factor.
Additionally, there are fewer parts in the VXA drive. The parts that remain cost less while lasting longer. Therefore, the drive is much more cost-effective to maintain.
Overall the computer industry has welcomed VXA technology and will continue to embrace VXA technology as they upgrade their outdated backup systems. Small to mid-sized businesses will see the most benefit from the low-cost, high reliability options afforded them with VXA technology.
